Filipino receives int’l health research awards
A Filipino PhD student at Cardiff University in Wales won back-to-back awards from two different international health conferences in recognition of his research work on the health and welfare of seafarers.
Don Eliseo Lucero-Prisno III, a medical doctor and Nippon Foundation Fellow at the Seafarers International Research Center, was judged to have the best studies submitted to the 11th Conference of International Society of Travel Medicine (ISTM) held in Budapest, Hungary from May 24 to 28. OSY asks GMA to help OFW father
An out-of-school youth (OSY) asked President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo to intercede for his father, a migrant worker, who is due for hanging after allegedly being jailed for no reason.
Fernando Pascual, a youth recipient of an employment certificate from the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), took the chance to ask for Arroyo’s help during awarding rites at the Guagua East Central Elementary School. Read the story »
Stricter deployment rules for 44 overseas jobs

The Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA) has tightened the deployment requirements of 44 overseas jobs for the protection of overseas Filipino workers (OFWs).
GMA News reported that 33 overseas jobs for females bound for all countries except Canada and 11 jobs for males bound for Bahrain were added to the low and semi-skilled category, according to POEA Memorandum Circular No. 5, which was dated June 15. Read the story »
